OLD PHILS FANS

I was a young kid when I was in right field at Connie Mack Stadium in Phila.Pa.I went there with my glove in the hope of catching a ball.I was told by a beverage guy that Ashburn hits them there all the time.Believe it or not he hit a foul ball/Whooooo-I got it!!It was in my glove. An employee of the team came up to me and asked me if I wanted to have the ball signed.I said sure.He signed it.
I put that base ball under my pillow and never took it out for a year.
I then started to beg my parents to let me play baseball.Thats when it all started.I walked, talked and played ball.
After going thru all the levels of ball I realized I could go no more.(AA)And believe me weekend players ,it got really tough in AA.Thats when I started my audio/video business.So-----I got a call from my office that a Mr. Simmons needed someone to come out and either fix the problem or install a new system.
I went to his house which was on a golf coarse and knocked on the door.(Now I have to tell you that I was a left handed pitcher and so was he)I had no idea that it was Curt Simmons till he excused himself and let me in the foyer.I looked over at the shelf and there were pictures of Curt as a kid with the Babe and so many others.I started to tear up.He was a lefty and so was I.All the games I saw him pitch and all the dreams of being a major league player came down like a blanket on a campfire.I was face to face with the one that had made it to the "show".
I was standing right next to the man who unknown to him at the time got me into my Baseball career. Those days are long past. Many younger Phillies fans may not know who Curt is but I teared up when he said"Whats wrong son?"I said "You are the reason I started to play Baseball"He looked at me and said"NEVER GIVE UP ON YOUR DREAMS".Cool

Phillies sweep Brewers

The Phils have a nice streak going.I can't help but feel some trepidation about their pitching staff.I feel nice and comfortable when Roy Halladay is on the mound but anyone else makes me nervous. But somehow the Phils win.Jamie Moyer at 47 yrs old has 3 long balls hit against him,in one inning his last outing, and he settles down and gets a winn.Hammels tonight lets 2 leave the park back to back, settles down somewhat and gets a win.Blanton gets banged around.Happ is on the DL.Lidge is injured again. The Phils are an enigma. If their pitching falls into a groove I might have to bolt my chair to the floor.Cool
